Oregon Model United Nations 2024 Recap

During OMUN 2024 we got to see a few returning faces as well as many students that this was their first in person conference at the University of Oregon. Students rose to the challenges presented showing the remarkable leaders they will become.

2024 Secretariat:

HYUNSOO LEE, SECRETARY-GENERAL

"Hey Munsters! I'm Hyunsoo, your secretary general. I'm a junior going into senior year, and this is my 4th year doing MUN. I was a delegate in the global economy, security council where I somehow won best representative both years. Last year, I was a committee chair for the environment committee. As someone who was born and raised in South Korea, the only divided country in the longest on-going war, I'm naturally interested in international affairs/global politics. MUN has helped me explore this path a lot, and so far, I love it!

Outside of MUN, I love music (acoustic songs!), movies (STARWARS), and our MUNions who have become some of my favorite people in high school. My email is secretariat@oregonmun.org. Feel free to ask any questions regarding OMUN."

Thank you, and I look forward to working with you throughout this year for OMUN!

ALEX GOUGH, VICE-PRESIDENT

I am Alex Gough, a Junior at Crescent Valley High School and your Vice President. I am dedicated to the values of Model United Nations. My most important mission is to increase our range to underrepresented regions of Oregon. Every school is needed here, no matter how small. I have served as a delegate on the Global Economy and Security Council Committees as well as best delegate for the former. I believe our organization provides opportunities to learn about the field of international relations and diplomacy. More importantly it serves as a way to connect students from across the state and build problem solving skills. It is my pleasure to serve as your Vice President.

Outside of MUN, I am involved in debate, my school newspaper, and advocating for students in my community. In my free time I enjoy practicing my languages, riding my bike, studying history, and reading.

I can be reached at my Instagram @alexzgough

IRIS WEAVERBELL, VICE-PRESIDENT

Hi everyone! My name is Iris WeaverBell. I'm a senior at Lincoln High School in Portland. This will be my 4th year doing Model UN, and I'm so excited to be your Secretariat Vice President! My favorite part of Model UN is all the incredibly smart and inspiring people I’ve met and will meet at Spring Con '24! Outside of MUN, I do Mock Trial, Speech & Debate, and CommuniCare. In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends, watching bad movies, and exploring cool new restaurants and stores. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram (@irisweaverbell) with any questions or suggestions for OMUN 23-24!! See everyone in Eugene!

CLAIRE CAO, UNDERSECRETARY

Hi OMUN 2024! My name is Claire Cao, and I’m so excited to serve as your Undersecretary General. I am a current sophomore and rising junior at Jesuit High School, and this will be 5th year in MUN. At OMUN, I was a delegate in Global Security where I received the Best Consensus Builder Award, and I served as a chair for Global Economy this past year. MUN has given me an amazing outlet to connect to hundreds of other high schoolers passionate about international relations and global politics, two of my biggest passions. OMUN provides an impactful platform to allow students to solve world issues together, and it is such an honor to serve as a member of the OMUN Secretariat.

Outside of MUN, I do figure skating, mock trial, and traditional Chinese dance. I spend my free time playing with my cat Sushi, hanging out with friends, watching dramas, and going on walks. Feel free to contact me on Instagram @clairexcao if you have any questions about MUN or life in general! Thank you so much, and I can’t wait to meet everyone at OMUN 2024!

ARYAN AGARWAL, UNDERSECRETARY

Hi everyone, I’m Aryan Agarwal and I’m thrilled to be one of your undersecretaries this year! I’m currently a rising Junior at Westview High School and this will be my 3rd year taking part in Oregon MUN. In the past, I have served as a delegate for the Global Security committee and was a member of the General Assembly this last conference. I truly believe that MUN is a great activity for someone to participate in especially if they are interested in learning more about the world around them while also gaining vital skills through public speaking and collaborating with others to come up with creative solutions to real-life problems. Recently at Spring Con, I enjoyed hanging out with friends as well as meeting new people from other schools all across Oregon who also enjoy MUN as much as I do!

Outside of MUN, I am involved in DECA, debate, and robotics. I also love playing the guitar, chess, swimming, going to concerts, and discovering new music. If you have any questions about OMUN or anything else in general let me know by reaching out to me at @aryyanfr on instagram. Thanks and I hope to see you soon at OMUN 2024!

TUPELO WRIGHT-DYKHOUSE, UNDERSECRETARY

Hey everyone, my name is Tupelo! I am a rising senior at Ida B Wells High School. This is my 3rd year as a MUN member and my first year as an officer! I had such a great experience at the most recent conference, and I even thoroughly enjoyed the 2021 Zoom conference. Model UN has been an amazing way for me to learn about global affairs and policy making, which is why I am so excited to help lead this year! OMUN is a very unique activity that allows us to explore global issues, and work together to think of creative solutions. Outside of Model UN, I am a co-leader of the Key Club at my school and a cheerleader for Ida B Wells. In my free time, I love to watch sitcoms (Parks and Rec being the best), go to concerts, spend time with my friends, herd my 3 dogs into going on walks, and play the guitar. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram, @tupelowright, with any MUN, or anything, related questions! Cannot wait to see everyone at the 2024 Conference, let’s make it the best yet!

MOLLY JETT, UNDERSECRETARY

Hi everyone! I’m Molly, or MJ, and I’m a rising senior at South Eugene High School. This is my 4th year in Oregon MUN- I was a delegate for Health and Human Services and General Assembly, a chair for Global Economy 2A- and now I am an Undersecretary! I have been interested in global affairs, culture, and history for a long time, and MUN has been an amazing place to meet others with similar interests! I’m so excited to share my love for it through being in the Secretariat.

Outside of MUN, I volunteer with Food For Lane County and Resolve Restorative Justice, and practice Taiko. In my free time, I like to read novels, play with my three cats, watch fun films, hang out with friends, and explore and write outside. Contact me @mollynroses on Instagram if you have any questions about OMUN or anything else! So excited to meet everyone this year!

ANYA LI, UNDERSECRETARY

Hi MUNions! I’m Anya Li, a current junior at the International School of Beaverton in Portland, Oregon, and I’m one of your undersecretaries this year! This is my third year doing Model UN; I’ve participated both as a delegate, where I won best country representative and chair for the Health and Human Services committee. MUN has given me the opportunity to come up with so many creative solutions to real-world problems, has broadened my perspective on global issues, and I’ve met some of the coolest people who share my interests. I hope to give back all that MUN has given me by making this year’s conference better than ever!

Outside of MUN, I’m a competitive springboard and platform diver, am trying to design a student marketplace, and am a cybersecurity nerd. I love reading dystopian novels (please send recommendations!), going for cool hikes, and playing the ukulele. Feel free to reach out to me any time at @anya.rings on Instagram and I’m so excited to see you all at the conference!
