Oregon Model United Nations 2023 Recap
OMUN 2023 marked our fist year back in person at the University of Oregon. For most delegates it was the first year they had been able to meet in person. This presented interesting challenges but also good opportunities to work together and make the conference stronger. As always, the Students demonstrated a glimpse into the future they would bring as leaders and built skills they will need to being that future to be.
2023 Secretariat:
HANNAH LO, SECRETARY-GENERAL
Hey MUNsters! My name is Hannah Lo, and I am currently a senior at Ida B. Wells in Portland, Oregon. This is my fourth year of Model UN; I was a delegate in Health and Human Services for two years, a Vice-President Secretariat for one year, and finally your Secretary General this year! Model UN is something I am very passionate about, and it has inspired my aspirations to join the foreign service in the future! This has led me to grow my love for acquiring foreign languages and to earn scholarships to study Mandarin Chinese. When I’m not doing Model UN or feverishly reading books, I also love to write short stories, play tennis, and compete in speech and debate. I have had an amazing time working with my fellow secretariats to organize the Spring Conference, and I am so excited to see all of you there!
DORI VAUGHAN, VICE-PRESIDENT
Hi everybody! I’m Dori Vaughan, and I’m a senior at Sheldon High School in Eugene, Oregon. This is my 6th year doing Oregon MUN! I was a page for two years in middle school, I’ve been a delegate and an ambassador, and last year I was an undersecretary. This year I’m one of your Vice Presidents, and maybe someday I’ll be a part of the real UN. When I’m not doing Model UN, I'm passionate about environmental advocacy, and world languages. On the side I'm an aerial circus acrobat, and I go to a firefighting camp each summer. In school I'm doing full IB, I love math, and I'm learning Japanese with plans to study abroad. I can be reached @dori.knob on Instagram with any questions or feedback. I’m so excited for the 75th anniversary of OMUN and I hope to help make this a fantastic year for everyone!
GAURI ARORA, VICE-PRESIDENT
Hey everyone! My name is Gauri Arora, and I am currently a senior at Westview High School in Portland, Oregon. This is my fourth year in MUN, and I am truly thrilled to serve as one of your 2022-23 OMUN vice presidents! In the past, I have served as a delegate in the Global Security committee, a committee chair in the Human Rights & Environment committees, and a state undersecretary last year. Outside of MUN, I am also the founder and executive director of a nonprofit organization, YouthVenture, that aims to support local BIPOC owned businesses via a podcast, PDX Business Spotlight! I also love reading books (definitely open to book recs), taking sunset pictures, and singing in my free time. If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach me on Instagram at @gauriaror. I am so excited to plan the upcoming MUN conferences, and I’m looking forward to seeing y’all at the 75th anniversary of OMUN!
LUNA MATTI, UNDERSECRETARY
Hello MUN members!!! I’m so excited to serve as your undersecretary this year and I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our spring conference this year! I’m currently a senior at the International School of Beaverton. In my free time I enjoy talking with my friends about foreign policy and political philosophy. Outside of my MUN interests I play both the clarinet and the saxophone as well as spending any extra time I have learning about biology and math.
DEEWA RAHIM, UNDERSECRETARY
Hey everyone! My name’s Deewa Rahim and I’m a senior at Ida B. Wells HS. This is my fourth year of Model UN; serving as a HHS delegate for two years, a committee chair my junior year, and president at my school's club the last year. Outside of MUN, I’m a leader of Mock Trial as well as Key Club. I love gardening and reading (and will take any book recommendations you give me!) I can’t wait to see you all at the 2023 conference. It’s gonna be one for the books!
SRINIDHI GUBBA, UNDERSECRETARY
Hey OMUN! My name is Srinidhi Gubba and I’m a senior at Westview High School. This is my fourth year of MUN and I’ve gotten to be a delegate for environment, CSW, and human rights. Outside of MUN, I like to bake, paint, and am the student director for TYE (an entrepreneurship organization). I am super excited to serve as an undersecretary this year and look forward to meeting you all at SpringCon!
KATRINA PHILLIPS, UNDERSECRETARY
Hi everyone! I’m Katrina Phillips, and I am a current senior at Ida B. Wells High School. I had been a delegate in Environment and General Assembly before becoming one of your undersecretaries! Besides Model UN, I am also the treasurer of my school’s Key Club chapter and help run blood drives with our Red Cross Club. In my free time, I love to read fantasy novels, bake totally unhealthy sweets, and hang out with my friends. As one of your undersecretaries, I have worked to organize SpringCon for our amazing delegates, and I am so enthused to see everyone there!
SHREYA SOMAN, UNDERSECRETARY
Hey guys, my name is Shreya Soman and I’m a junior at Lincoln High School! This is my third year in MUN and my first year as part of the OMUN secretariat. I’ve got to be a delegate in both my freshman and sophomore years, and I helped lead my school’s small OMUN chapter as co-president last year too. Outside of MUN, I love to dance, binge bad netflix rom coms and hang out with my friends. I also love volunteering with my school's FlockFeast program, singing in choir, and traveling the world with my family. I had a fabulous time helping to plan this conference for you guys and I am so happy to see everyone for the 75th OMUN anniversary conference!
